Product Description

These French antique foundry crucibles bring the rugged character of historic metalworking into an interior or outdoor setting. Sold as a pair, each vessel has a thick, rounded body with a deep interior and substantial walls that give the forms a grounded, almost monolithic quality. Their surfaces carry layers of deep charcoal, ash gray, and iron brown, with darker areas of soot settling across the exterior. The heavily weathered finish reveals blisters, pits, and irregular marks created through prolonged exposure to extreme heat, preserving the unmistakable character of their former industrial use.

The two pieces measure approximately 16 1/4 and 16 1/2 inches in diameter, with heights of 21 1/4 and 21 inches. Their slightly different dimensions give the pair a natural variation rather than the uniform appearance of newly produced vessels. The rims are uneven and worn, leading into interiors marked by rough, layered surfaces and traces of ancient burns. Identified as SKU FK102 45, these antique French crucibles retain the dense, scorched appearance that makes old foundry equipment so compelling as architectural and decorative objects.

Used as reclaimed foundry vessels, the pair can hold substantial branches, dried arrangements, or sculptural greenery, allowing their dark surfaces to contrast with organic materials. They can also stand empty beside a stone hearth, along a covered terrace, or within a gravel courtyard where their industrial history becomes part of the setting. Raw timber, concrete, aged limestone, and rusted iron complement the dark surfaces particularly well. As antique industrial vessels, they introduce a strong sense of texture and history without relying on decorative ornament, giving a room or garden the atmosphere of an old workshop where heat, metal, and craftsmanship once shaped the surrounding landscape.
