Product Description
This French antique limestone trough has the solid, excavated character of a stone vessel that has spent years in an old French garden. Its rectangular form measures 41 inches wide, 21 1/2 inches deep, and 14 1/2 inches high, with thick walls surrounding a deep interior basin. The heavy construction gives the piece a grounded architectural presence, while the simple geometry keeps attention on the natural character of the limestone. Its broad proportions make it substantial enough to anchor a garden setting while remaining low enough to work naturally along a wall, terrace, or pathway.
The exterior carries a soft palette of bone, cream, and warm ash, with rust brown mineral staining and mossy patches gathering along the upper edge. The limestone surface is grainy and heavily pitted, with small depressions and irregular marks spread across the faces. Years of use have softened the rim into a rounded profile, creating a pleasing contrast with the rougher exterior walls. Inside, the stone has developed a smoother worn surface, revealing the difference between the exposed exterior and the area protected within the basin. The piece is identified as SKU FG102 10.MY.
As an antique limestone planter, this trough is well suited to herbs, lavender, grasses, or trailing greenery that can spill naturally over its softened rim. Its deep basin can also serve as a limestone water basin, creating a simple reservoir for a courtyard fountain or garden water feature. In an interior, its substantial form can hold firewood beside a hearth or provide a distinctive vessel for branches and seasonal arrangements. Pair the reclaimed limestone trough with aged brick, lime plaster, weathered timber, terracotta, or dark iron to bring out its warm mineral tones and moss covered surface. The combination of heavy stone, softened edges, rust brown staining, and natural moss gives this weathered limestone garden trough the feeling of a practical vessel that has quietly aged alongside the landscape, becoming more beautiful through years of exposure and use.
