The limestone carries ivory, cream, soft sand, and light gray, with a sun-faded softness and darker weathering gathered deep inside the joints. The top shelf projects forward, built from several heavily molded layers that emphasize the unusual thickness of the stone from every angle. Beneath this deep cornice, the frieze runs long and plain before stepping outward into thick, square front blocks. From these blocks, massive corbels sweep downward in a tight, heavy inward curve, carrying the upper structure and giving the fireplace its commanding shape.

The face of the limestone remains dry and grainy, marked by open pores, rubbed corners, old surface cracks, and raw, visible block joints.
