Product Description
French Antique Limestone Trough SKU: FG102-06.M extends 54 inches in width, creating a long, heavy basin that works well against a courtyard wall or garden edge. The stone palette mixes cool ash and taupe with vibrant patches of ochre and iron-oxide lichen. These organic rust colors break up the grey mass, giving the piece a distinct, weathered character.
The outer face is aggressive to the touch, covered in coarse point-chisel marks that leave a pebbled, granular finish. Deep pitting and natural crevices trap dust and shadow, making the stone look excavated rather than carved. The rim wanders in a loose, hand-cut line, with corners that have been blunted by centuries of friction and weather.
Use this wide vessel as a reservoir for a wall-mounted fountain, where the water will darken the grey stone to a deep slate. It works as a substantial planter for a row of lavender or culinary herbs, framing the green stems against the mineral orange tones. In a mudroom or entry, it serves as a robust container for firewood or seasonal branches, holding the mess within its heavy walls.
Pair the trough with smooth lime plaster to create a calm background for the busy stone texture. Reclaimed timber beams or decking pick up the warm rust notes in the lichen, while dark iron fixtures sharpen the silhouette. A surround of crushed gravel or river rock helps merge the rugged base with the landscape, settling the heavy block into the earth.
