Product Description
French Antique Limestone Well FK101-15 is composed of three heavy, curved limestone segments that form a deep, circular basin. The stone is a blend of pale buff and warm cream, accented by smoke-gray mineral deposits and sun-faded patches on the gritty exterior. A dark iron crank frame is mounted directly into the stone rim, supporting a weather-beaten wooden drum that adds a tall, architectural element to the low stone base.
The surface is heavily textured with small pits and old chips, while the corners of the wide rim have been rounded by decades of outdoor exposure. Inside, the deep basin features vertical tool marks and a hand-worked texture that creates sharp internal shadows. The iron hardware shows a dark, oxidized patina, and the wooden drum is dry and cracked from age, providing a high-contrast material detail that highlights the pale, sun-bleached surface of the limestone.
At nearly five feet in diameter, this well functions as a massive stone landmark that anchors the center of a courtyard or garden axis. The height of the iron frame and wooden drum provides a strong vertical line that draws the eye, making the piece a permanent visual anchor in a large, open space. Whether converted into a recirculating fountain or used as a sculptural centerpiece, it brings the unmistakable weight and scale of 19th-century architecture to the property.
