Product Description
A low round French antique stone wellhead of the 19th century, with a richly weathered surface and a flat, worn rim. The limestone runs through gray, pale putty and warm sandy tones, deeply pitted, with surface irregularities and edges softened by age. The low rounded silhouette reads as a collar on the ground rather than an upright object.
It measures 30 3/4 inches in diameter and 17 inches high. It is a compact piece for a well head and correspondingly easier to move and place than our larger blocks, though it still ships on a pallet. Condition is as found: pitted, stained and softened, with nothing cleaned or filled.
It works as a decorative well feature set in gravel, as a planter collar around a sculptural plant whose foliage breaks over the rim, or as a standalone stone accent at an entry or in a courtyard. It sits comfortably with reclaimed brick, weathered timber and established planting. This antique wellhead is in our yard in Marina Del Rey; come and see the stone wellhead by appointment, or ask us for photographs and a delivered quote.
