Product Description
A French antique limestone trough from the 18th century that was long ago converted into a stone bench, so it carries two histories: the deep hollow of a farm trough and the flat, worn seat of a garden bench. The limestone is aged and textured, with the softened edges of long weathering, and the proportions are oversized, more architecture than furniture.
The full arrangement measures 114 1/4 inches wide, 77 1/2 inches deep and 25 1/2 inches high. This listing is for the left piece only; the right-hand piece is listed separately, so ask if you want both. It is French, 18th century, as found, and very heavy: a crane set and a level pad are needed.
It belongs in an estate garden at the end of a long walk, along the wall of a large courtyard, or in a loggia where a limestone trough turned bench gives seating that never needs bringing in. Gravel underfoot and mature planting behind suit it best. The bench is in our yard in Marina Del Rey; come and sit on it, or ask us for more photographs and a quote for one piece or the pair.
