Product Description
A big French antique limestone trough of the 19th century, deeper front to back than most and heavy in the way only solid stone can be. The limestone has weathered to a soft gray with the dry, lightly pitted surface that comes of long exposure, and the rim has lost its sharp edge to a century of use. There is no ornament; the proportions do the work.
It measures 78 3/4 inches long, 41 1/4 inches deep and 27 1/2 inches high. At over three feet from front to back it is unusually wide for its length, which gives the basin a squarer, more generous plan than the long narrow troughs. Plan on a crane or a large forklift at delivery and a level, well-compacted base. Condition is as found: weathered, with the chips and staining of age.
A limestone trough of this plan is at home in the middle of a gravel courtyard, at the end of an allée, or on a broad terrace where it can carry a tree and an underplanting with room to spare. It also makes a calm stone trough basin for a single jet. It is in Marina Del Rey; come and see it, or ask us for photographs, weight and a delivered price.
