Product Description
A French antique limestone trough from the 18th century, converted at some point into a stone bench and sold here as the right-hand piece of a pair. The scale is large, the stone is aged and weathered, and the form is simple: a long seat with the mass of a trough beneath it. It reads as a fixed part of a garden rather than a piece of furniture.
The full arrangement measures 114 1/4 inches wide, 77 1/2 inches deep and 25 1/2 inches high. This listing is for the right piece only; the left piece is listed separately, and the two are meant to go together. It is French, 18th century, as found. Setting it needs a crane and a compacted base or pad.
It suits a terrace that looks over a large garden, the edge of a gravel court where people gather, or a spot beneath a mature tree where a bench will be sat on all afternoon. Mature planting behind it, gravel or reclaimed timber around it, and wrought iron nearby all suit the stone. A limestone trough bench of this size is a permanent decision. It is in our yard in Marina Del Rey; see it by appointment, or ask for photographs and a quote for one piece or both.
