Product Description
French Antique 18th Century Limestone Wellhead FK101-21 is a stout stone block that shifts from a multi-faceted, octagonal base into a wide circular rim. The limestone is a weathered landscape of buff-beige and smoky brown, marked by a bright, chalky mineral bloom that wraps around the center of the exterior. The surface is deeply porous and matte, showing the heavy pitting and irregular voids of stone that has spent over two hundred years in the elements.
The top rim is thick and hand-worked, featuring a softened, irregular lip that gives way to a deep circular throat. Inside the opening, the limestone reveals a rhythmic texture of original chisel marks that catch the light in shifting shadows. This contrast between the blocky, rugged corners of the base and the fluid interior opening reveals the primitive 18th-century character of the salvage.
Standing at 20 1/2" tall, this well head serves as a heavy, knee-high anchor for a courtyard or gravel garden. The circular opening functions as a practical stone basin for a low-profile fountain or as a thick protective collar for an upright specimen tree. The faceted, octagonal base provides flat, stable sides that can be set flush against a terrace wall or paving, while the round top keeps the center open for water or planting.
